POLE FITNESS
Is pole fitness the same as what they do at strip/exotic dance clubs?
No. While the movements and techniques can be utilized to the benefit of professional dancers, pole fitness is first and foremost a physical fitness activity. The atmosphere is, of course, different (i.e. more fun!) than traditional fitness classes, but there's no nudity, etc. For many, it's a fun, safe way to engage in a sensual physical activity without "crossing the line".
What type of women come to pole fitness classes?
ALL types of women! Mothers, wives, professionals, college students, grandmothers, etc. Pole fitness offers a unique workout with a magnitude of physical and mental benefits. People of every age, size and ability level attend. If you live in the Des Moines area, it could be that your insurance agent, doctor, boss, friend, or somebody else you know is a Kees Camp Pole Fitness Studio student.
I'm worried that I'm not fit enough -- or don't have the coordination to do pole fitness, what do you think?
You'd be surprised at how many people feel they aren't coordinated and/or lack the fitness level to do pole fitness. It's simply not true. Jen has more than 16 years of group instruction, we limit our class sizes, and our certified pole programs follow a specific path that starts with true beginners in mind. We train people of all ages, sizes and ability levels. There's no need to be intimidated, we're here for you! You'll have a fun and effective workout, and we'll teach you everything you need to know. Before you know it, you'll have the confidence, skill set and strength to proceed through the levels without looking back. Some of our best students asked (and overcame) this very question in the beginning.
What should I wear?
You should wear what you are comfortable working out in. You can wear leggings or pants, you can spice up shorts with leg warmers -- have fun! We recommend you wear shorts as bare legs will grip the pole better. Many workout barefoot, heels or non-marking dance shoes optional (certain levels and warmups barefoot only). DO NOT wear lotion or oils, rings, bracelets and watches. Lotions make it almost impossible to properly grip the pole, inhibit the learning process, and increase risk of injury. Rings, bracelets, watches, etc. may scratch/damage the equipment and pose a safety risk.
Should I come to class early?
Please make an effort to arrive on time, perhaps a few minutes early. We ask this as a courtesy to the rest of the class, to help avoid disruptions, and to help protect you against injury by making sure you get an adequate warm up with the rest of the class.
How big are the classes?
Pole classes are small so that we can ensure you receive appropriate individual instruction and time on the poles. A minimum number of participants is 3. Maximum number is 6-8. Intro classes are limited to about 12. Pole parties don't have limits since our studio and multiple poles can accommodate larger groups.
How do I advance from one level to the next?
Ultimately, you (with the support of your instructor) are going to make the decision on how fast you advance through the levels. If you finish a level and want to repeat it, no problem -- you're going to keep reaping the physical and mental benefits. If you and your instructor feel that you're ready for the next level (typically graduation from a level will mark this), you're free to proceed and learn new movements and routines.
Do I need to practice?
We encourage practice, but don't worry if your only outlet is the once-a-week level class -- you're going to love the changes, even at once per week. If you want more than once per week, several options exist: 1) Sign up for one of our Trickster classes (open pole time, see store), Trickster classes run at the same time as your level class. 2) Sign up for personal pole training (several options exist, see store). 3) Practicing in the comfort of your home by renting or buying a pole (see store).
I've looked at the schedule of classes in the store. There's a certain time/day that I'd like, can you do it?
If you don't see a class time that works with your schedule, drop us an e-mail. We have a class minimum, but if there's adequate interest in a day/time slot, we'll open it up.
Do I need to be pre-registered or can I just show up at a class?
We carefully monitor our pole fitness class numbers. It is best to pre-register to ensure that there is space for you in the class that you want. Additionally, we have minimum requirements to hold a class, so if there's a class that doesn't have enough signed up, we may shift that class to another time slot. If we don't know there's interest in a time slot because there hasn't been adequate pre-registration, we may not offer the time slot.
Can I join a pole class level already in session?
Pole levels are designed in such a way that each class is important. That said, there may be rare times when you can join a class in session. Contact Jen via e-mail or at (515) 779-5337 to discuss.
When is my class spot reserved?
Classes are first-come, first-serve. Time of payment for a specific class is considered as the mark of when you officially have a spot reserved. Because we keep classes small, it is highly recommended that you pay for the time you are interested in once you know you want it. If you need to pay in person, please arrive 5 minutes early (or call prior to class) so that we are able to start class on time.
What is your make-up/cancellation policy?
You are allowed to make-up a missed class with at least 48 hours notice prior to class time. We allow one make-up per session, space permitting, in other classes.
Because we tightly monitor class numbers and reserve your individual spot for pole classes, we DO NOT offer refunds on pole classes.
For pole parties, the deposit is non-refundable. You may re-schedule your party for a different time and/or date (availability permitting) at no cost as long as you have given us at least 7 days notice. If you wish to re-schedule your Party for a different time and/or date on shorter notice (less than 7 days), you will be charged a $50 administrative fee.
Can I bring my husband/boyfriend/significant other to watch?
Kees Camp Pole Fitness Studio is a private studio. For the comfort and focus of all in class, we do not allow anybody not participating in class into the studio during class time. Don't worry, you're free to show them what you learned once you get home!
Do you have pole fitness classes for MEN?
Our current class schedule only offers classes for women. If you are interested in a class for men, please contact us.
